Stress Surrounding Debt Management

There is a specific kind of stress that does not show up on your face, does not make it into your therapy session, and rarely gets named out loud in a room full of people.

There is a specific kind of stress that does not show up on your face, does not make it into your therapy session, and rarely gets named out loud in a room full of people.

It is the stress of money.

Not the dramatic kind , not bankruptcy, not crisis. The quiet, chronic kind.

The bill you pay and immediately feel behind on. The balance you do not look at because looking makes it real. The guilt of spending something on yourself when the debt is still there. The calculation you run in your head at 2am that still does not add up.

This month in the Collective we are talking about debt management. More specifically, the stress that lives around it.

Not the math. The nervous system response.

And those are very different conversations.

What I keep seeing in the women I work with is that debt stress is rarely just about money.

🌙 For the overthinker it is the spiral , running the numbers over and over until certainty is supposed to arrive, and it never does.

☀️ For the one who tends to people please it is the quiet reality that some of that debt came from saying yes to other people when she should have said no, and the shame of knowing that.

🌊 For the avoidant it is the unopened statements and the vague knowing. Where they are aware enough to feel anxious, and avoidant enough to stay stuck.

🪐 For the pressure keepers it is the verdict. The decision that debt is evidence that she does not have it together the way she is supposed to.

Same balance. Four completely different stress responses. And most of the advice out there was written for only one of them.

Something I notice consistently with clients navigating debt: the shame arrives before the solution does.

And shame is one of the most reliable ways to keep yourself stuck. You cannot think clearly about money when money feels like a moral failing. You have to keep in mind it is not as simple as just "saving money". Depending on our culture and upbringing, we all have deep, complex, and nuanced histories with our relationships and perspectives of money and finances.

A lot of the struggle is just attempting to continue a pattern that you've outgrown or doesn't align with your current needs.

The first step is almost never a financial one. It is separating what you owe from what it means about you. Therapy is an incredible place to explore all of the root causes and also discover tools for how to break negative cycles and generational patterns and mindsets for good!

If you reside in the states of New York or Florida I would be happy to have a consultation and see if it might be a good fit for you to tackle some of this work. You can learn more about me, my approach and accepted insurances at the following link:  Cindy Ransom, LMFT

The Stress Zodiac Collective is our online membership community and if you've been on the fence because you think you need to be in Florida, I want to clear that up right now. The Collective lives on the Skool app, which means you can access everything from anywhere in the country, on your schedule, at your own pace. No live attendance required.

Every month the community goes deep on one theme , this month it's debt management , with tools built specifically for your stress sign, office hours with me, discounted 1:1 coaching rates, and free entry to our quarterly in-person events in Orlando when you can make it.

All Star Speaker sessions are pre-recorded and available in the community classroom whenever you're ready.

Our May Star Speaker is Amy Pierce , a financial professional who helps individuals and families reduce financial stress by making confident, informed money decisions. As a former teacher, Amy brings education, clarity, and a calm, supportive approach to planning for today and preparing for tomorrow. Her session drops in the classroom May 18th and is yours to replay anytime.

🎙 Sitting up in my Room by Brandy - A little throw back that always puts a smile on my face for you

📖 Currently reading 10x is easier than 2x by Dan Sullivan . It was recommended to me and I am enjoying the concept that if you think bigger the path becomes clearer. I haven't finished it yet but like it so far so would recommend to anyone seeking mindset strategies on how to streamline productivity.
